The Boosters
The La Cueva High School Big Bad Bear Band Boosters are parent volunteers who work to support the Big Bad Bear Band programs.

We are a registered 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Donations to the general account (not student accounts) are tax deductible under the IRS Code.

Donations
If your company participates in United Way or the Combined Federal Campaigns, please consider a donation to the Boosters. Donations can be made via payroll deduction. Any donations are always welcomed and appreciated.
United Way: write "La Cueva Band Boosters, Albuquerque, NM" in the designation box.
Combined Federal Campaign: our CFC number is 79004.

Volunteer

Just as important (if not more so) than financial donations are donations of your time. An award-winning band program needs a lot of support and that is provided by the band parents through the Band Boosters. In addition to coordinating fundraisers, parents:

• chaperone all performance events and trips;
• provide administration and maintenance of band uniforms
• build props for the marching show
• distribute drinks and supplies for all performances
• administer email and phone trees to broadcast important information
• help with fundraisers,
• help with the craft shows, and food sales
• help with many, many more tasks!

GET INVOLVED! A few hours of time from each parent adds up. Please contact the Booster Secretary as listed on the Leadership Page to volunteer.

Gabriel Velasco
​New LCHS Director of Bands

​​Gabriel Velasco was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with degrees in Trumpet Performance and Music Education. He later attended the University of Utah as a graduate Teaching Assistant with the athletic bands where he earned a Masters of Music in Trumpet Performance.

After his completion of school in Utah, Mr. Velasco moved to Los Angeles, CA where he was an active freelance musician and educator. His teaching career began in Moorpark Unified School District at Moorpark High School and Mesa Verde Middle School where he served as the Assistant Director of Instrumental Music and eventually the Director of Instrumental Music at Moorpark High School. He was then the Director of Instrumental Music at Cibola High School in Albuquerque, NM from 2020-2023 before beginning at La Cueva High School.
​
As a performer, Mr. Velasco was a member of the Blue Knights (05-07) and Cavaliers (08-09) Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a freelance musician in Albuquerque, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and Seattle on trumpet performing with various college, amateur, and professional groups.
